Conclusion

It is time now to write about my experience during the last two months with creating a blog. When the teacher asked us to do so, I was surprised because it was the first time I heard about an academic blog since I am used only with my friends’ blogs where they can post their pictures or funny things.

First of all, the experience was very useful because I learned many new things which have a relation with my academic life; for example, I learned how to develop my information literacy skills and how to use the different tools that we have to complete a research or to look for specific information. The latter happened from the first step of the blog process which was finding a book that has a relation with my topic and actually, when I found and read it, I learned a lot from the author experience. Another step which I really appreciated is finding an academic source using a database research. In fact, I have never heard about such engines to search, and I sincerely realized that it has a large amount of information which are credible and reliable and it becomes my research engine since the day I discovered it, and I use it in other courses to look for information and sometimes even to read just to enrich my knowledge. Finally, I learned how to evaluate the credibility and the reliability of the sources, so that I can avoid trusting everyone who is writing or publishing something.

To sum up, the blog was an interesting experience especially, when it comes to my topic which is the bad effects of technology since I learned how to be aware when using it. I also advise all people to work seriously on the blog because it will help them in their life.

Blog Evaluation

1. Write the full reference of the blog, MLA STLYLE

Steve, Prentice."Good Technology, Bad Technology".15Jan.2010. (http://blogs.gartner.com/steve_prentice). 9Apr.2010.

2. Evaluate the objectivity of the source, based on what you have learned from class discussions and readings such as “How to Evaluate Information on the Web”.

The blog I found is written by Stephen Prentice, who is a Gartner Fellow working in the Executive Leadership and Innovation Group (part of CIO Research). He takes a specific interest in emerging trends and the long-term future of technology - looking at the intersection of technology, business and society. So that's why the source is a reliable and useful one; also, the purpose of the page is clearly identified to give an idea about the bad and the good sides of the new technology.

3. Reflection: Reflect about searching for a blog that is useful to your project and the information found. Also, why is this information useful?

Blogs are the websites created either by individuals or by the searchers or the persons who have a good background about the topics they discussed or explained to people al over the world or to a specific audience. In our SSK 1212 course, the last step in the process of our research paper is finding a blog that has a relation with our topic, and I found a blog entitled: “Good Technology, Bad Technology” written by the analyst Steve Prentice.

First of all, I started by using the best research engine for me which is Google, and I found many blogs discussing my topic which is the bad effects of technology. Before choosing the suitable blog, I followed the instructions we learned in class to evaluate their reliability and credibility, and actually, the content was very useful and interesting because I learned many new things about how we should use technology efficiently and how we can be aware of the wrong things. For example, a part of the blog talks about the creation of guns and arms and how this latter is very harmful for the human beings; it also explained that the technology has no moral when it comes to creating new things no matter if those things have a good or a negative impact on our daily life. Finally,I really appreciated the content of the blog, and it actually, pushes me to visit more blogs so that I can found reliable things as they are easy to find and understand.

To sum up, I think that everyone who has a good or bad experience should create a blog to talk about it and share it with other people to take advantage from it. Moreover, it facilitates the task of publishing something to all people and can lead them to know each other.
