Internet Sources

1. Write the full reference of the Internet article:
Kim,Dishler. "Technology has both good and bad sides".Theonlinerocket, 02/25/2005. Web.03/29/2010.

2. Evaluate the objectivity of the source, based on what you have learned from discussions and readings such as " How to Evaluate Information on the Web?"

After reading the article, I found that the author is objective and unbiased with the publisher because he gives his own ideas and he focuses on the two sides of technology.

3. For the source you chose, explain what type of information it contains, and how that information is useful for your project

The article I found contains a lot of information concerning my research topic and I will use it because it gives a general idea about what people think of the bad sides of technology since the author one of them.

4. Reflection of the process and information found
If we say Technology, our minds take us immediately to internet and vice versa. And as our fourth step in the process of finding information for our research paper is looking for an internet source, I started by looking for the best research engine that will give me the most accurate and reliable source.

Google is the most spread engine which I used in my research and actually, it gave me many articles and sites which I examined to see if the sources are useful and reliable or not. I remarked that the first result is always an article from Wikipedia which from what I learned in SSK 1212 is not a reliable source since everyone from everywhere can put whatever he wants or he thinks. So the latter leads me to do more readings to find the best source and I found an online interactive newspaper which is created by a university. The article talked about the good and the bad sides of the new technology and it is written by an author who has included many quotations to enrich his text and make it more reliable.

Finally, and from what I learned from the beginning of the whole process, I think that the use of internet is something that we cannot quit because it has an impact on our daily life and it has facilitated a lot of things even if it has another bad side. That’s why we have to use it efficiently.

Non Academic Journal (Popular Magazine)

The following criteria and questions can help you to judge the value of a source.
Instructions: Use the periodicals you have found on our class topic. Answer the following questions in order to assess the credibility of your chosen source; you may need to do some additional research:

1. First, write the name of the site and the full reference here (you will use this when you write your Research Paper Bibliography and the Annotated Bibliography. Do it correctly using MLA style).

Robert, J Samuelson."Technology In Reverse".Newsweek,Jul 20,1992. Page:57

2. Evaluate Currency: a) When was the text published and/or last updated? b) Will you use it for current information or for historical context? c) Why?

The Text ws published on the twentieth of July 1992 by the magazine, and I will use it for current information.

3. Evaluate Purpose: a) What appears to be the purpose of this text? b) Is it to inform, persuade, entertain, report, or refute? c) Explain your answer stating why you think so.

The text is to persuade us bout what we should not do by using Technology.

4. Conclusion: a) Now that you have assessed the source in more detail, do you still think it is useful? b) Explain why yes or why not. EXPLAIN IN DETAIL.

After looking for the specific topic in a non academic journal, I find that it was the must difficult step in this research because it needs a lot of readings and that latter was not practical as we used to look for the two ones.

5. Reflection of the process and information found – please write an academic and formal reflection.

The third step in our research paper is looking for a non academic periodical that is related to my topic which is the bad effects of technology on our body, so that we can diversify the sources and have more information about the topic.
I spent a lot of time looking for the right information on this step because finding a non academic article needs gathering a lot of magazines and doing a lot of readings, especially when this latter are not like the other steps where all the titles are written and gathered in a database as we see in EBSCOhost. At the beginning, I tried to look only on the scientific magazines because I thought that they are the ones which will contain the information needed, but I find out that these types of magazines talk only about the new discoveries in the medical field or about how to get better from a disease. So, I decided to look on the internet and then, choose only the non academic ones, and I actually find many non academic articles.
Finally, I declare that technology has facilitated many tasks for us and this can be shown on my process when looking for this non academic periodical. And even if we find a lot of book and magazines that are related to our topics, we should not trust them 100 percent because they are not reliable and they can only be commercial ones, that’s why I evaluated the information found to use it in my research paper.

After reading the article, I think it is very interesting and that I will use it in my research because it talks only about the bad side of technology on our health which is my topic.

9. Reflection of the process and information found.

Using electronic databases is the second step that we are supposed to do to complete our research paper. Actually, after going to the library and attending the workshop about the new database, I found it very interesting because it is very easy to use it and it contains a lot of information that are reliable.
EBSCOhost is the database that I used to find a periodical, and I was surprised when I was looking for the information because I found many texts I ignored I could find them. Technology 'changing the face of health care' is the article that i found and that fit with my research because it contains many information about the use of technology in the medical field and how this latter leads to more problem and diseases to the human body.
Finally, I think that the database is the best place when we can find information, and here I m talking as a student because it is on the net and does not demand a lot of efforts because we spend half of our time surfing on the net; not like going to the library and try to find a book which cannot have all the information we need.
